Studio News

I just finished recording my new vocalist “Corinna” in the studio.  I have been changing up my album a bit that is scheduled to release in the spring of 2010, doing some new slower paced things.  The new song is titled “Brand New Day”, I will be putting up clips from the album on the site soon!  There is going to be more downtempo involved and if I get enough gathered, I may just make it a seperate release from the dancefloor music.  I was featured in a new Documentary here in Chicago on House Music this spring.

It was aired in a a few Cinema’s around town, although I didn’t officially make it out to see the film (hopefully getting a copy soon).  In the past month I did a few shows in San Fran, Chicago and Ive got a few upcoming in Portland and Seattle.  Future Chicago shows include “Purgatory” and “Drum Chicago”.  I will also be making a trip back to Europe in September, all European promoters interested in picking up a show please contact APT.  Oh and before I forget, there will be a new CD going into stores and in all Digital stores entitled “14″, this is a best of collection and will have my favorite music peices I did over the last 14 years wrapped up into one smooth mix.

Europe Re-cap!

Took a long flight into belgium from Chicago and switched planes and headed up to Nottingham.  Had a great Thai dinner with Gavin and crew.  Lawrence from Inland Knights came along and it was amazing to see him as it has been years.  Started to fall asleep at dinner table due to jet lag so promptly went back to Gav’s for an hour nap.  Woke up and headed to smoke screen. Got to hear some amazing music before playing to a nicely packed hall.  Smoke Screen had some live acts, so it was cool to see all that.  Crashed at Gavin’s and we both left for the airport to BE.  Raoul Belmans of Swirl People fame and best buddy, picked me up and we headed to his new Mansion complete with 100K Porsche in the driveway and pool in back yard, although it was his landlords, it still complimented the incredible flat he has.  Decadance, let me just say.  That place has been there for 13 years and is a major House Staple for Belgium.  When Raoul and I get together to play, it turns into some of the craziest nights I have ever had.  We tend to want to showcase music for each other and the crowd ends up getting it.  I met some really awsome people on this trip and should be back in Europe in the next two months for H20, my other favorite club in Europe.  Here are a few snap shots from the night.  Oh and by the way, Europe has the best Fanta on earth, not our syrupy orange sugar crap.  The Fanta in Europe tastes a bit like Orangina and has a bit of pulp.  That with some Greygoose and you can never go wrong!

Welcome to the home of Ken “ECB” Christensen

“It was at a party in 2001 in Ankorage Alaska that I first witnessed what the DJ they now call Ken (ECB) Christensen was capable of.  A friend of mine was promoting the event and it originally included both Ken and Juan together as the globally notorious  -East Coast Boogiemen.  Due to some problems at the airport Juan Zapata was unable to attend and to make matters worse, Ken’s bag of records unfortunatly did not arrive.  I was told he was taken to our small town record store where he grabbed the entire house crate “we were not so lucky to have thousands of peices of vinyl like the many stores across the main chunk of America.  He showed up, not knowing what was in his bag, not knowing how people would react.  The booth was set up for a two by four turntable set.   In most circumstances any normal DJ would have locked himself in his hotel room for the rest of the weekend and taken it as a loss, but this was clearly not the case.  Everything now was unexpected, we did not know where we would be taken as a crowd, nor that this would compare to anything we have heard in the many mixes of ECB that had floated around our city and on the internet.  Ken stepped up to the tables, put on his headphones and like a true artist began to create and shape something so incredible out of the unknown.  Even though his partner was not there to give the full ECB vibe, Ken stepped up even higher and began playing on all 4 turntables, sometimes having 3 records going at a time, moving back and forth from the empty space where Juan would have stood.  It was the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed to this day.  He was able to take the subpar music in our local shop, that I had grazed through over and over and had conceeded that none of this music would ever speak the unspoken language to an Alaskan crowd willing to ride it.  I was taught a lesson that night, it is not just the music but truely is the DJ.  I witnessed a man create so much energy out of what I though of as merely filler.  It was a night I will never forget and have since continued to watch this man grow to become one of the worlds smiling and happiest DJ/Producers, gee I wonder why!”  - Jason Atuk
